Where are they now?

A long-term fan of Spizz, the only man to annually change his band name, Sue Kerr of London SE1, recalls Spizzenergi's chart hit Where's Captain Kirk? and asks, Where's Captain Spizz? Beamed up?


Kenneth Spiers AKA Spizz (vocals):

Has toured annually while releasing two singles, including re-recorded Where's Captain Kirk? in 1987. Has exhibited paintings in London, recorded with Ian Paige (Secret Affair), done a stint as a bicycle messenger ("to keep fit"), worked for the Post Office and as a freelance cartoonist. Has just successfully auditioned for TV presenter role (beside Elvis' ex-wife Mary Costello) on Westminster Cable TV's new rock/pop show, currently at pilot stage, Now re-forming the band.
 
"The Who, Buzzcocks, Spizzoil, the names just roll off the tongue." says Spizz. (Just for the record, Spizz '77, Spizz Oil, Spizz Energi, Athletico Spizz '80, Spizzles, Spizz Energi2, Spizz Orwell, Spizz and his Big Business, Spizz Sexual, Spizz, Spizz Orbit, Spizzivision, and presently Dynamo Spizz '90 (rehearsing) and Spizz Oil (recording) )


Dave Scott (guitar):

Partnered Daryl Hunt (now bassist with The Pogues) in Baby Lotion, Pride Of The Cross (also featuring Cait O'Riordan, formerly of The Pogues) and The Troubleshooters. Since 1987, concentrated on bicycle business Yellowjersey. Now has three shops in North London.


Jim Solar (bass):

Tour managed for London Cowboys and (briefly) Sigue Sigue Sputnik between '82 and '86. Did a spot of freelance writing for Melody Maker before starting Hobo Railways, a music publishing and management company in '86. Has just become CBS UK publishing's professional manager. "I'm just glad to be on the other side of the can - the musician's the last one to get his hands on the money."


Mark Coalfield (keyboards):

Co-writer of Where's Captain Kirk? Went to catering college. Now works as qualified chef.


CP Snare (drums):

Temporarily Big Country's original drummer. Last heard of playing for Scary Thieves (signed to EMI).
