VARIOUS ARTISTS Urgh! A Music War A&M AMLX 64692 (UK) AMLM 66019 (US) (1981) |
| Sometime in 1980 there was a concert, or rather a series of concerts, featuring current punk/new wave/alternative acts.
The shows were filmed for a documentary and recorded.
The film, which featured highlights of the shows - a track or two by each act - was called Urgh! A Music War. To coincide with the film, A&M Records released a double-album soundtrack. The selection of songs was almost the same as the film, but there were a few minor changes and several acts featured in the film did not make it to the album (John Cooper Clark, Chelsea, Surf Punks, Invisible Sex, Splodgenessabounds). There was also a promo-only single LP released in 1981 with a limited number of tracks. The album was eventually made available on CD (catalogue number CD 6019) although the track listing for the CD is different again. The Spizz track was recorded at the Lyceum Ballroom, London on September 17 1980, and although the cover only lists 'Where's Captain Kirk' it is in fact preceded by a quick blast of 'Clocks Are Big, Machines Are Heavy' |
