Interview with Gary Kent of Stranglers fansite 30 years ago back in 1977... "It was 30 years ago back in 1977 when I first took to the stage for my first public performance. In July 1977 I witnessed The Clash at their most passionate and raw. When the Birmingham Rag Market Punk Festival was banned, headliners The Clash arranged to play at Birmingham's Barbarella's.
The gig was an inspiriation for me to get involved as a performer. Barbarella's was a night spot that had recognised the Punk phenomenon and started regular punk nights. The club announced that an all day bank holiday Punk Festival would take place on the 29th August. I knew local band Model Mania well enough to borrow a guitar and arranged to play as they finished. I thought I had better tell the promoter and decided to tell him that I was a local hero and amazingly he believed me and that I could have 10 minutes. The only flaw in my plan was I didn't expect to actually get to play and had no material prepared more soon...

London's 2nd Favourite ENGLAND WORLD CUP SONG of 2006 as voted by listeners to Danny Kelly's BBC Sports Show Thursday 1st June. Originally not included in the 7 songs shortlisted (because they couldn't find the promo copy). Spizz called the show from his car and played it over the phone. Not satisfied with that Spizz then raced across London and not only delivered a copy but also got invited into the studio. In a Eurovision style show votes were cast by listeners. Although Sham 69's re-hash came top (not surprising as the Hurry Up England is Virgin Radio's chosen anthem), SPIZZENERGI's We're The England stormed to second place despite not originally included in the line up. We'll have it here as a pod cast SEE BELOW. CLICK ON THE AUDIO LINK TO HEAR SPIZZ ON BBC LONDON London
